The Adobe House is a marvel of ancient building techniques combined with modern advantages. Currently under construction, the ground floor has 24″ unstructured adobe thermal mass walls, an earthen floor, and advanced wood framing on the second floor. An encapsulated ceiling insulated with cellulose is followed by a metal roof which supports a solar thermal system. Outside is a 15,000 gallon water collection cistern. Among other innovative strategies, this home actually took caliche out of a local landfill.
